Her Father
There was a girl I knew about twelve years old
Her smile was bright and her heart was gold
But then one day it all faded away
And as she told me why, she began to cry
As she said that
She has a mother like no other
She didn’t deserve what was given to her
She had a father who didn’t bother to care
And he left her there in the cold
As she talked I felt so bad
How’d such a happy girl become so sad?
She used to shine like candle light
But the flame went out; she kept talking about that night
Her father had moved on, was singing a new song
A brand new tune that changed the mood
Her mother was crying, her eyes weren’t drying
But she stayed strong; she knew she’d move on
And he walked out
He moved in with the new girl, they had a family
But every time his daughter looked in his eyes
He had nothing to say; so she’d walk away
And she’d remember
Her father had moved on, was singing a new song
A brand new tune that changed the mood
She had a father who didn’t bother to care
So she left her there in his new life
