Bright spring day
Pushesopen the doors and windows
Aroma of pizza dances around theroom on the warm breeze
Laughter and first-grade chatter isits partner
Biting into my pizza, my stomach issatisfied
Maybe it's my lemonade, or just my naturalsweetness that draws the bee to me
Flashes of black andyellow move around my head
My stomach begins to twist andturn over the pizza
As the insect comes closer andcloser
Its buzzing brushing my eardrums like a whisper ofcertain death
And my hands aren't connected to my brain forI swat at the pest, just like Mommy told me not to
With myheart pounding so that I think you could see it through myoveralls
And the black and yellow demon begins its descenttoward my cheek
