Waiting
the other day
I noticed a man who was never there before
sitting alone at a park bench
across the street from my apartment building.
I watched him as he crossed and uncrossed his legs,
and I knew that he was waiting for something.
I stopped spying and minded my own business,
but in a few hours
I glanced out the window
and he was gone.
Yesterday
I noticed the man who was there once before
sitting alone at a park bench
across the street from my apartment building.
Again I watched him as he periodically glanced down at his watch,
and I knew that he was waiting for something.
this time I watched to see who he was waiting for
but he didn't leave,
so I went to grab a book
and when I returned
I glanced out the window
and he was gone.
Today
I noticed that that the man was absent
from the park bench
across the street from my apartment building.
I watched the bench as people passed
none of which were him.
I waited at the window
though I knew I had better things to do,
after a while
of looking out the window
I laughed at myself
for acting so childish.
Then I heard a knock on my door
and went to see who it was.
When I opened the door
the man was standing before me
I watched him as he gazed into my eyes,
and I knew that he was done waiting.
I looked down in embarrassment
but in a few seconds I looked right back at him
and he asked me what I was waiting for.
