Drifting MAG
A small boy, adrift
lazily bobbing
on the tubular cushion
of air.
A rope loosely wrapped around
the big toe, keeps his
wanderings to a minimum.
The head limply bent
over the curve,
with eyes shut.
Brilliant light reflects
off the pale, young
skin.
As the sun rises and rises,
the body changes. The once fair,
innocent skin has now been replaced,
with the leathered, worn look
of time. The tidy black hair, now
floats white, and ragged.
The eyes stay shut, too weak
to face the stabs of the once-
kind sunshine. The lapping
of the waves, and the gentle
rocking of the contained air
eases the mind, and the muscle.
Now the once loosely fitting
rope becomes slack as well.
An innocent boy, a tired
old man now peacefully drift,
out to sea.
