I tucked them in over an hour
ago.
I polished the mahogany
table today
maybe he'll notice
the way it shines
when he
eats the stew I
made for
him.
It is getting cold,
though,
it's been waiting patiently
on the table
next to the glass
filled with melting ice
drowning in
watered-down coke -
poured
two hours ago.
he was supposed
to get home
from work
at six ...
but maybe
he was held up at
the office.

I should pour
out the coke -
it must be getting
flat
just sitting there.
