You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.

6:30 AM!
Dawn removes the night’s sable cloak and observes his kingdom of forming mist.

Tortured monsters, chained by their binders, force themselves from their bed, and scream at Dawn.

Dawn glares at them and pulls open the curtain to release Light.

Every morning, high students are shattered awake by their alarm clocks and go to school. This poem describes teenagers as “tortured monsters”, who are “chained by their binders”. However the morning just scoffs at them. I added this poem in the anthology, because teenagers are always berated by their parents to be waken up and I thought it might work if the morning reacted to complaining teenagers. I wrote this poem for my mom’s birthday.
