butterflies
It’s been awhile baby
But still seems like yesterday
When you asked me for that first dance
And you took my breath away
Do you know how nervous you made me
When you looked into my eyes
And how my stomach got all muddled
Filled with a thousand butterflies
And when you drove away that night
I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again
Little did I know something so beautiful
Was just about to begin
Now countless days have passed
So many things have changed
But I still can’t help smiling
When somebody says your name
Though you’ve seen me without makeup
And my hair looks like a total mess
When I’m getting ready for our date
It’s still you I want to impress
And when you call me beautiful
There’s a glow I can’t disguise
It’s that wonderful jumpy flicker
Of a stomach filled with butterflies
I could be the girl that needs the pearls
And all the glitz that money brings
But what I love most when it comes to you and me
Is all the little things
Sneaking sideways glances at each other
When we’re driving in the car
And running around like a couple of kids
Trying to fly a kite in your backyard
And they all might think we’re crazy
For doing what we do
But darling I don’t really care
‘cause I’m still head over heels for you
Some let time and routine
Douse the fire of their love
Monotony takes over and they forget
What life is really all about
But today I got all excited again
When you looked into my eyes
‘cause baby after all this time
You still give me butterflies
