Love
Love is not justified.
Love is not fair.
Love doesn’t play even,
nor take a dare.
Love sometimes visits in twos
though unguaranteed to stay-
fleeting both, or only half
departing in some way.
Love sometimes moves into a heart
but a heart still being one.
And though the loved cares
without a start, that love’s done.
Love sometimes hastily begins
built by time, yet built fast-
deeply though it roots,
deep hurts won’t let it last.
Love sometimes opens up charming
seemingly flawless, so we think.
But once truth is revealed,
it can vanish in a blink.
Love sometimes is fabricated-
forced ‘til it’s all we know
but never is that love genuine,
no where it could ever go.
But sometimes, only once or so of all else,
love comes and is true;
is right real and refreshing-
each day renewed.
Love sometimes warms two hearts
selfless to each it draws, alone
so they grow together piece by piece,
partnered in one, yet nonetheless their own.
Then, only then,
Love needs no justification.
Love will be honorable beyond fair.
Love may still not play even,
but will take its only dares.
