Flower Puddle

The glistening petals of the flower drip
into kaleidoscopic pools of swirling color,
sliding across the ground in soft,
ever-shifting patterns of chaos.
A child peers into the pool
and watches his colorful reflection
as the pool distorts his angelic features;
the calm reason of a painfully distant adult
rings strangely in his ears:
puddles of flowers don't tell the future.
But this one does.
