New York Way To Play
Here in the big apple,
Resides the way to play;
Jazz! A jubilee of inspiration,
Deeply in love with the styles of creation
Ting! Ring! Ping!
Echo off the cracked, wooden sticks
Meeting the cymbal,
the drummer meets the beat
Like the pace of a runner’s feet.
Easy in my chair,
In the back of the room,
The bass booms through the air,
strings meeting lacquer.
The stench of liquor and smoke
pollutes the club, yet the music
stays refined and unwavering,
As if it all fits in.
This is the New York way to play,
To screech,
To say,
To reach,
and get carried away.
