Right Through You
Just like a book
You are just like a book
Ink tarnished athwart your face
Some as black as velvet night
Some too small to distinguish
Some even invisible to the unclothed eye
Words of interlaced desolation and contradiction
Oh so black, Oh so clear
Just like a book
You are just like a book
Edges thick and impenetrable
Hard to strike and pierce a heart
Too hard to find between empty leaves
Wrought with cleaved pages
And unhealed holes
Screaming to be patched and filled
Oh so shrill, Oh so piercing
Just like a book
You are just like a book
Words struggle to find their place
Tangled together in harsh sympathy
On blank pages that lay damp with tears
Not worthy of pity but of apathy
Oh so crippled, Oh so desperate
Just like a book
You are just like a book
And as I flip through this book
I witness what I know is not true
And I spot that the words
Have been rearranged and scathed
Words too difficult to understand
Words too simple to believe
Filling in the vacant in the wrong array
Not knowing where they rightfully belong
The white out has run empty
No veil to bury the mistakes
I can see right through
Right through you
Read you like a book
Just like a book
I can read you just like a book
A fictional book
What a fictional book
You are.
