Thoughts at Night
Looking at the sky that is jeweled with the moon
And freckled with stars that hold my destiny,
I wonder what it will take to reach the sky.
Tonight I wish to leave the weary heat of June,
Leap, and fly to the cunning twins of Gemini,
and laugh at the chained unfortunates I pass by.
But what if I am suddenly flung to Earth,
or burnt when I finally touch the stars,
and forced to taste the bitter tangs of failure?
As I contemplate, my confidence fades into dearth
and I am returned to the mundane sound of rushing cars
I decide for or now I will stay on the ground, far from possible danger.
