And When the Father Thought
And when the father thought
his son was asleep
he crept into the room
quietly to not disturb him
and gently pulled the blankets over the boy
smoothed down the boy's hair
with loving hands he stroked the boy's face
which so much resembled his own
and slowly knelt down
and whispered in his ear
the velvety words
caressing the boy
"i love you"
then stared at him through the night
with eyes full of pride
and fatherly love
and as he left the room
as silent as he had come
the boy opened his eyes
and smiled
