On the far island of Kahiki I resided,
Until Namaka sent the tidal waves of despair.
Washed away was my home; so our family united.
A sister of destruction; fighting with no care.
Left homeless and broken, but hope was over the horizon.
Brother, come save us and ride in your canoe.
Over many seas we ventured; far past the blazing sun.
Searching to make shelter; a home we could call new.
Namaka followed shortly behind our trail;
Waiting to wipe our next home away.
But finally we reached Kauai, and here we planned to stay.
I dug, and dug, deep into earth with my sacred fire stick;
Throwing lava from side to side, which formed the lands.
We stayed in the pit of fire until Namaka spotted us again;
We fought once more but the goddess had us pinned.
Island to island; Kaua’i to O’ahu, and Moloka’i to Maui.
Namaka was always there to send the wrath of her waves.
So we fled to Mauna Loa; high above the heavens to rest
Namaka’s waves tried to reach the top, but they weren’t the best
“She has become a goddess whom I can never kill.” She declares
I now rest in Kilauea, my fire pit, with my family I will continue to share
