From menacing blackness a summer storm grows
And a brilliant bolt of lightning splits the ink black sky
And for that second bright as day, a glimpse of evil glows
The wicked wind whips the rain with painful deadly force
And a brilliant bolt of lightning splits the ink black sky
Trees creak in protest as they bow to kiss the ground, then crack and die
The wicked wind whips the rain with painful, deadly force
Giant waves crash upon the rocky shore battering the broken cottage as they go
Trees creak in protest as they bow to kiss the ground, then crack and die
Comes the hail with powerful force like bullets on the metal roof
Giant waves crash upon the rocky shore battering the broken cottage as they go
Under the covers of her masters bed a tiny dog shivers and shakes
The cacophony of sights and sounds has brought her to a terrified brink
And for that second, bright as day a glimpse of evil glows
But crawling deeper comfort found snuggled against her masters clothes
From menacing blackness a summer storm grows

The author's comments:
During and advanced poetry unit in Creative Writing I got a chance to write a lot of different forms of poetry I had never tried before. I had heard of Sonnets and Odes, but a Pantoum was one I had never heard of. When I read the requirements for the form I thought it was going to be the easiest to write. After all I would be repeating a lot of lines cutting down on the actual writing. I was surprised to find it was the hardest! When it came time to repeat, I found I either had to change the line before the repeat or change the direction of the poem after. I enjoyed writing this form of poetry though, because it was a real challenge
