I Jumped Off the Bridge
Last night,
I jumped off the bridge.
Too poor for Paris,
I took a swim.
The woman I met,
She told me there was
Nothing I could afford.
Too poor for Paris,
Warm was a wish beyond my worth,
And it seems,
I hate to swim.
Fighting the Angry Black
Of an iced river of want,
I gave what I had to the push and crush,
A day like any other I was,
Fighting this river's rush.
I took a swim.
She stood on the dock,
I saw her. She
Looked away from me.
Tourist-watching, She
Didn't want to see.
I screamed and screamed.
I asked her, "Hear some truth,
See my use."
And she would not.
Too poor for Paris.
I fought and fought.
I took a swim.
I am too poor for Paris.
I took a swim.
