The girl who wasn't nominated for Prom Queen
She dances with her friends,
Unaware of the way the world is looking at her
Unaware of the fact she dances in the middle of the room, under a spotlight
Unaware that the boy she has had a crush on since forever, is looking at her in a way he never had before.

 And tonight is her night
For years she has worried about what people have thought of her,
For years she has made decisions that were influenced by other people’s opinions
For years she hasn’t told anyone her secrets because she has been afraid of what people might say

It’s a night that will be different
Something has given her the confidence to shine
Something has given her the ability to dance like nobodies watching
Something has made all of her worries disappear as if it was a magic trick, and they are never to return again

 She’s making everyone regret;
Regret not nominating her for prom queen
Regret not asking her out on a date the first time they saw her
Regret ignoring her like she wasn’t part of the class or year, like she wasn’t normal or didn’t fit into any cliques

 For tonight she is stunning
Not because of her dress, she has spent all year saving up for
Not because of her hair and makeup she has spent two weeks perfecting
And not because of anything else that had cost her money, or precious time that she could of spent with her family.

She is stunning because she hasn’t realized she is
