Who am I?
Who am I?
Am I crisp northern air?
Or am I fierce urban humidity?
Am I glistening summer lakes?
Or am I sparkling city lights?
Am I deep green forests?
Or am I paved municipal streets?
Am I crisp cherry pie, sweet and tart?
Or am I take-out Thai, slippery noodles and foreign flavors?
Am I the crowd of family, talking, teasing?
Or am I the peaceful solitude of homework and an iPod?
Am I the child, giggling and sliding down sand dunes?
Or am I the teenager, catcalling outside movie theaters?
I am a mix of all—I am the road connecting them.
I am the bridge from rural to urban
From child to adult.
I am Michigan; my summer love, my summer oasis
I am D.C.; my urban city, my lifelong home
I am all of the above. I am me.
