Knock on their window and they’ll turn to see
But it’s nighttime and their own reflection greets them
They’ll stare at it, empty, for a second or two
And then go back to what they were attending to

They’re disgusted by their second self
It’s an image they can’t quite sort out
They’ve got all the answers, but not all the questions
They’re begging to be asked for something real
So we say, take my hand, come with me
As if we don’t already have our own graves to dig

Call it instinct if you will
Just let us be heroes
See, we’ve all got someone to save
But the sad thing is that most of them don’t want to be
So we duck our heads and graciously bow out
Of the broken lives they wish to lead

To us it seems foreign
But it really does hit home
Like a dream you remember a week later
The relation of it all soon dawns
It’s uncomfortable, and it twists our insides
In all the wrong ways we try to hide
But it really makes us think
What does this all mean?

Save yourself, it’s all you can do
Don’t neglect, save yourself
In the end, who else do you have except you?
We’re too weak to be heroes, but to strong to be saved
On any given day we’ll run scared
When what we want the most is simply handed to us
It’s confusing, and it’s as murky as untouched waters
But, then again, who said it was going to be easy?
