What's meant to be will be.

Ruby Bridges had the grades,
In the local negro school she earned all A’s.
But there was an obstacle to overcome.
Attending the new school with all white children except one.
She was singled out from all the rest by her skin color nevertheless
She succeeded in school with all her might
Only to be threatened with poison by a mother that was white.

Esther Young dealt with her own kind of chore,
Her skin color was white but her grades were poor,
Opposite of Ruby you might say
but they had similarities I have noticed stood out in every way.
When a negro murderer came into town,
Esther was different and let her guard down.
They were both accepting of the cruel human ways,
But why did this have to happen they came to say?

It was hard for them both, not knowing what was to be,
But all they could do was wait for the rights to be free.
The obstacles were cut strong and rigid,
But they met strong people who were King Roy and Mr. Bridges.
Both of them stayed strong and at times wanted to step back,
but their strong human selves made freedom for negroes attack.

But differences between the two were also seen,
Esther let it out while Ruby let it be.
Despite the rude comments of knives, poison and pins.
Ruby prayed for God to forgive all their sins.
Everyday she got God to forgive them all,
only to be left with threatened to be poisoned all through the fall.

Ruby held her head high and walked up the steps,
It was a tough thing to do as spit was thrown on her from the rest.
She showed them the strength of her beliefs,
Which showed them they need to set the negroes free.
Esther was strong with her obstacle with reading,
She read the books of Islam and realized what King Roy was preaching.
She realized King Roy wanted to fight now and later,
After all he had lost his sister for it to a white negro hater.
She saw the teachings of Gandhi that made whites like her hurl,
Gandhi said to be the change you wished to see in the world.
This was strong because she learned more and more,
stood up for the negroes, through good and through poor.
She arranged for her family to go to a walk,
To make a difference for the blacks and hear Martin Luther King Jr. talk.

As you can see, Ruby and Esther were tough and strong,
they stood up for things when they did not feel like they belonged.
They were different too,
from the types of voices that they used.
But they both made a difference,
and a better life for me and you.
There is fairness now between blacks, whites and all,
We stand shoulder to shoulder, we stand nice and tall.
It’s thanks to them for their greatness in their hearts.
It’s thanks to them, we are still not apart.
