I am from long, soft hair
From shampoo and conditioner
I am from the Diet Pepsi Factory

(Effervescent, golden black,

The same sensation as sharp cheese in my mouth)
I am from the lilac tree

The hanging, leaved branches of a tree

Fragile, but comforting, that bring me peace and safety
I am from laughter and a deep, sincere connection and love with my grandmother

from Tracy, Audrey and Dale. even in his latest day
I am from the did-you-hear?-ers

and the huggers
From “I love you to the moon and back” -mom

and the “I’m here no matter what”
I’m from God is good,

wasting is a sin
I am from Samz Road

Baked beans and Grandma’s cookies
From the 60th wedding anniversary of my grandparents,

the way my precious grandma glowed and smiled that night, me right by her side as usual
Hidden under my mom’s bed,

an old box barely closing,

stuffed with pictures

of “the good old days” that make me smile with a glimpse of the past
I am from the glistening shores of Lake Michigan

Sitting out there in silence and serenity

On my fragile old porch, leaning against the wall, looking at the houses below me

Just thinking
