Silenced soldiers
Bless us with sight,
Not simply eyes -
Add listening to our hearing
And strength to our fright.
Wandering about
in the dark of night;
Lost,
Cold,
Forgotten are their cries.
More graves dug,
more souls silenced –
Pain,
Remorse,
Despair, can’t overcome them.
Another gunshot
shudders through the streets,
Another bomb
blasts away those asleep.
Another shriek of a mother
Her children, her fathers
Eventually they’re all:
Burnt dust, Just another
Bless us with sight,
Not simply eyes -
Add listening to our hearing
And strength to our fright.
Reality – it’s what we accept to see -
Soldiers in their uniform,
Young men lying on the streets to bleed?
It’s been a long war already
And a longer one awaits –
Will we continue watching
And let more spirits fade?
