Half-Numb Place

I run up the stairs two at a time
I close my door and close my blinds
I take off my clothes and collapse into bed
Thoughts in my head must come to rest
I glance over at the clock—
I take a peep:
11:30 at night…
I am so excited to sleep…

A few minutes I lie awake
And then I slip about halfway…
Half of the scale has turned with sand
Half of the screen wiped with god’s hand
Half is crossfaded, half is black
Half of me is dead, but just half

The best part of sleeping is when
You can’t feel your toes or your hands
A smile plastered on your face
When you swim in the half-numb place
Burn like fire, a big black room
Swallows you up, you start to bloom
You blossom into ecstasy
No longer are you in between
No longer half a human being
Just a ghost on the river
Floating on, floating forever
Floating on, floating forever

You could say that I’m an athesist
But Tell Me if death will feel like this:

is this the place that they call heaven?
the number between six and seven?
Swimming in water murky and dense
Between the past and future tense

Between the ocean and the land
Between the water and the sand
Between the glove and the hand
Between the woman and the man

I have a ticket I must redeem
To ride the train that goes between
Between the sad and living space
And the empty dull sleeping place

Just a ghost on the river
Floating on, floating forever
Floating on, floating forever
