Spring's First Garden
The brown sparrow sings
As white crocuses cradle
Early morning’s light.
Gray stones stretch their veins
Under the unclouded sun.
A shy leaf shivers.
The rusted storm drain weeps
As late, afternoon rain falls.
The soil sighs, relieved.
Roses, draped in dew
Forgo their thorns and beckon
The late evening light.
