Polished on the Outside
Elegant smiles and Italian silverware,
Cold house, cold people, cold weather.
Hurting eyes, unsatisfied, in denial.
Stripes, ribbons, bows, and bags.
Late pity-parties, drunk on articulated words.
Violin strings, skeleton keys, and designer shoes in the armoire.
Doors are not the only things that are hidden.
Blood-thirsty, savage, like the beasts outside.
Eating, sleeping, breathing, killing, in order to survive.
Broken diction sliding down throats.
The weather will get warmer.
Spring will bring new life.
