Letting Go
I mount my bike
awaiting my fate, fate that always comes.
I feel my body tense,
Tense with anticipation.
“Don’t let go of me!” I bellow
I know that he will.
I grip my bike in hopes that it will go away.
“I won’t until you tell me to.” He reassures.
Guiding me along the sidewalk
I begin to giggle with pure delight.
I laugh as the wind plays with my untamed hair
knowing what lies ahead of me.
“Let go.” I command
ready to be let free
to finally spread my wings and fly.
Ready to soar among the hustle and bustle of life.
He lets go
I begin to fall forward,
toward the looming cement ahead,
a scream is released
I realize that it’s me screaming.
Contact
I cry in pain awaiting help
never wanting to try again.
Ever.
