Outsider
There he sits;
Alone on the roof.
He is the outsider,
The one no one talks to,
The awkward one.
The satellite dish faces the other way,
Paying no attention to his yearning for a friend.
He tries to blend in
with the generic design
of the cozy, little suburb,
But he sticks out like a sore thumb.
He stands back and watches
Everyone else live their life,
Knowing that his selfless courage
May one day save them.
The ignored protector
Will soon be honored after he absorbs the life-threatening shock of lightning,
protecting all who inhabit his domain.
And he asks for nothing in return.
He is a true hero.
