My Sunshine Has Left the Building
I dry my eyes
Paste on a happy face
Afraid the glue won't stick
And I once again will crumple
I throw away the ripped-up bits of pictures
But the memories still linger
A bittersweet taste in my mouth
I will myself to be strong
As I put my heart back together
Piece by piece
That day is still a tear-stained blur
Branded into my memory
I know I must move on
But I have nowhere to run
I can't escape myself
I fall back into a restless sleep
Not entirely wanting to wake in the morning
Yet I do
An unseen force pulls me through
As I smile at you with my happy face
