Time
The pale face of Father Time
Thunders ravenously above me
Each tock matches the rhythm of my heart
A countdown to the sleep that does not end
He jeers at me
Threatens my plans and dreams
With deadlines and no extensions
Worry engulfs my heart
Fearful, my mind turns to tomorrow
Avoiding the joy of today, of the present
The steel cogs turn in His face
Unsympathetic laughter echoes around me
And then,
Slowly, my trembling hands reach,
Reach up to the face of Father Time
With the strength of joy and admiration
I grasp the hands of Father Time.
I will seize today
And face tomorrow
With the same bravery.
I will live in this Time.
