Valuable Possessions
If who you are is what you own
then what have you to give?
A quest for status and success
yet we still fail to live.
Knowledge and character ever the same
if what you own is what you know;
But dispose yourself of earthly goods
and what have you to show?
Each purchase works to vitalize
if what you own is how you feel.
But when you look inside yourself
what do you reveal?
Pursue the world; obtain it all
and maybe you will find
These riches used to comfort you
have only made you blind.
Values diminish
as possessions take hold
Enslaved in a consumer's world
must our souls, too, be sold?
