The Surgery
I never forgave my rabbit
For having to have surgery
Especially on my birthday
And on Easter morning
That spring
When I was searching for my stockings
I opened the closet
On the ground I saw it
And got a good scare
I could hear her happy squeaking.
When they came out to the waiting room
With one sick bunny in hand
Who had ugly black blood filled fur
And one eye shut but one open
With a brave smile on her mouth
And long droopy ears,
They told me she put up a good fight
He handed me the used-to-be breathless life
And it gave me an angered pain throughout my whole body
In my 15th year
The pain still flows
For the life of my first rabbit
