Real Fairytales
Love
 Is the stuff of fairytales.
 A folktale beginning, ending
 With a bittersweet twist.
 A word without meaning
 Until it is given:
 Through clenched teeth
Among sweaty sheets in the darkness of a
 Nightmare.
In the ear of a young girl by a prince with a tender promise
and a time restriction -- nine months and it’s back
to scrubbing the floor in rags.
 And yet, and yet!
 Love
 Is the stuff of fairytales.
 A folktale beginning, ending
 With a bittersweet twist.
 A word without meaning
 Until it is given:
 Through tender lips
Among sweaty sheets in the darkness of a
 Dream.
In the ear of a young girl by a prince with a solemn promise
And a way to prove it -- nine months and it’s held
 gentle by eager hands.
 And yet, and yet!
Love is the stuff of fairytales.
