Love of a Different Kind
Terror and grief fill my head
As you, my mother, lie still upon a hospital bed.
Your head once covered with soft styled hair
Now lies pale and cold and bare.
Your ears are shut, but can you hear?
The present uncertainty fills me with fear.
The doctors say your hearing will go last,
But I think it’s disappearing quite fast.
Your laugh could once fill a room
But nothing now cuts through the eternal gloom.
Your eyes are dull and frightfully glassy
And your lips will never again utter something so charmingly sassy.
Each quivering breath your poor lungs take
Could be your last - Oh just one more for my sake!
Your lungs are just too tired, they need a rest
But everyone fears that that would not be for the best.
Oh mom I do love you so
When Death comes knocking please say no.
I know it’s tough, I know it’s hard,
But please don’t leave me with only a sympathy card.
We all know the end is near
But everyone will surely shed many a tear.
You are the woman we all know and love
And all we wish for you is peace on the wings of a dove.
But alas I know the jury’s in and the decision’s made.
The price of life shall no longer be paid.
A child’s dream is whisked away
A deep dark feeling now here to stay.
The world is spinning - everything’s gone bad.
I do believe I will soon become mad.
For my dearest mother no longer lies by my side,
Her lifeless body seemingly washed away in the tide.
