Thoughts of a ballplayer
Thoughts of a Ballplayer
Winter isn't always a
great time of the year for
us hardcore baseballers
long cold days
with the snow as
fluffy as cooking flour,
waiting for spring is like
waiting for sweet Martha’s
cookies at the state fair-
on a saturday morning.
sitting at home in your
room nothing to do but
toss the baseball
up, wishing it was spring
time with birds chirping
the sun shining
the grass as green as
a Deere. John Deere tractor
that is. wishing you
were playing some toss
with a few buddies. but,
wondering when the
snow will be gone soon
and the cleats will
be digging into
the ball field sand, or
when the bus rides
will come around again
while eating a sandwich
with melted cheese-
that's been sitting
in your locker all day.
when all of the sudden
the snow is melting
and it's 66 degrees out.
you go out to the sporting
goods store with a pocket
loaded with cash
ready to spend it
all on: batting gloves,
bats, accessories. like
eye black, arm sleeves,
wristbands. catchers gear
a ball glove and cleats.
then spring ball begins.
