To Fall in Love With Fire
The fire in your eyes,
makes me come alive.
The passion in your heart
fuels the licking flames of mine.
The warmth of your touch
turns my pale face rosy.
The harsh sounds of your raspy voice,
awakens my infernal soul.
The truth that remains unspoken
burns upon your lips.
The fire is within me,
the fire pulses within my heart.
But, the burns you left upon my flesh
flare crimson when you're gone.
And, the very thought of my parting
sets aflame the beast of your raging soul.
The residue of your elusive smoke
still remains so arduous to ensnare.
But the strong boldness of your coloring
intrigues me even so.
I fell in love with fire,
Your fire, your passion,
your burning existence,
until the candle wick flickers
And you are no more than a whisper of smoke.
But, when the illumination
of your blaze does die,
the remains of your existence
still dances in the air.
The once copper tones of color
fade to a wispy white.
I inhale the last of your existence,
Again, your fire lurks within my heart.
You never truly lived,
nor have you truly died.
Your substance only changes
from burning flame, to elusive smoke,
Two opposites encased in one.
For your fiery side blazed for attention,
and your smoke desired to blend with air,
Though together you do exist,
Misunderstood, by most, but not I.
They gawk at your splendor,
And pity the smoke you have become,
But I shall always love you either way,
Fire or smoke, smoke or fire,
Because I breathe you,
And I feel you burn inside of me.
I long for you,
and you for me.
You, a child of ash,
And I, of air, until
Our chemicals ignite . . .
Together, we exist,
Together, we dance,
Born from the flame and the air,
was love.
I fell in love with fire.
