O Glorious Pond Scum
O glorious pond scum,
You are so thick and scummy!
The ruler of the pond waters,
Pirate of the 12-foot by 6-foot by 4-foot sea,
Taking the nutrients of puny, pitiful plants,
All are below your majestic trail.
Below the surface, all are green with envy,
Though, none greener than you.
You grace all you meet,
Sticking to their fishing lines, boats, and shoes.
Many put you aside as algae,
But you are more beauteous than the decaying leaf matter,
Scummier than any plankton,
You are pond scum!
O glorious pond scum,
You will forever be with me.

After a hike in Holly Ross, I noticed decaying leaf matter, algae, and "pond scum". I thought it would be ironic to right an ode to something others usually do not associate beauty with. I hope you find the humor of this piece amusing.
