For Those I've Lost
Your soul escaped
Out we cried
As we watched you soar up high
To the heavens far above
Far from any of us
And as tears soaked our cheeks
You watched us cry
You tasted the salt that came from our eyes
We missed you for days, months, years
Time wasted on fears
That you weren't fine
That you were nowhere
And forever gone
But I knew better I had caught on
You were watching us all along
You were protecting us from the world
Cradling us in your arms as a mother would
You could feel our hearts beat
Though we couldn't feel yours
We miss you and always will
But I know that your spirit lives on still
