A Wanderer's Deliverance
On the trail for many a mile,
I stood on the outcrop of shale for a while.
My bones were tired and my legs were weak,
but I had yet to find what I did seek.
The warm air, and the sky’s blue gaze,
I glanced up at the golden rays,
and I stared right back.
I stood there, still, for many hours
and dreamed of fields of bright blue flowers,
watching carefully, as finally the sky grew dark.
Suddenly, I felt a bright spark
very deep inside my chest,
and I sat down for a long rest.
And I set down my faded blue pack.
There was no moon, and were few stars,
dancing in the sky like fireflies in jars.
I treaded slowly and tried to think,
as I descended for a drink.
Why was I here and what had I done?
I thought back many years, to when I had first begun.
And as I reached the stream I felt my bony limbs go slack.
I felt so very weak.
I could not breathe and I could not speak,
and a teardrop rolled down my weary cheek
as I lay there in the glistening creek.
And I watched as my canteen leaked-
I had finally found what I had seeked.
And I fell into the black.
