I Have To
I do not have a minute
Not a single one to spare.
Life is racing onward
I have to be prepared.
I have so many things to do
And I haven't even started.
I've never been so unsure
The path ahead's uncharted.
I have to find a college.
I have to finish scholarships.
I have to find an apartment.
I have to break relationships.
I have to spend time with my family
But don't forget to be social.
And enjoy every moment
Before you lose it all.
I have to be a normal teen
The best years of your life!
Be carefree in blissful ignorance
You know nothing about strife!
I have to balance everything
Perfect my juggling act.
High school, friends, family, work
All while keeping my future intact
I have to be talkative
I have to be kind.
I have to passionate
Yet continue to use my mind.
I have to be not a virgin nor a slut
But something in between.
I have to be a good friend
A shoulder on which to lean.
I have to...
I don't.

I wrote this piece last year, my senior year of high school, at the peak of my stress and panic about the future.
