Elie's Poem
Father how I wish you could see me now,
free from impending death, I sit and wait
the Americans they saved us, I know not how,
but here and now I wait for a future fate.
When all hope was lost we saw the light,
a world we had long left, on the threshold of death,
we saw new eyes, new faces they burned so bright,
as we walked to the world long lost the only thing I could do is take a breath.
From then on I swore to never tell this awful story,
but I need people to see,
there is darkness behind false glory,
I wanted the world to know what it truly means to be free.

My name is Wesley, in my 11th grade English class we read the book Night by Elie Wiesel, and our teacher asked us to write a poem from Elie to his dad, thus my inspiration for this poem.
