Broken Branch
Alone, quiet; I’m scared mama.
Nature is louder than life itself. Why it so quiet mama?
Swaying back & forth, limb. I can’t breathe mama.
The soul floats.
Life barely began; I wanted to grow up and be a doctor mama.
Skin; they said I didn’t deserve to live mama cause I’m black mama, what’s wrong with that mama?
Pigment; All I did was take a shorter walk home mama.
Glistening melanin; I just wanna see you mama.
The white man said so mama.
You found me mama, I’m sorry mama. Don’t cry.
