Ode to the Epilepsy Unit Nurses at Children's
O My Mary, my Sue, my Nadine--
You were exactly that
Mine
When you entered my room.
When you braided my hair
And brought me mass quantities
Of fulfillment
And delight
In the form of food.
When you watched me play games
And watched me watch Dirty Dancing
And for your laughing and our chats,
For taking 2AM shifts
And taking off my heart monitor every morning.
My only regret
Is not seeing you enough
And hoping
I will not have to see you again
For all you made me welcome.
Welcome
In a place I do not want to belong.
What a lovely thing.
