If I Could Paint
If I could paint
I'd paint an old friend
One we all know
From the noisy New York City
To the mystic oriental
If I could paint
I'd paint joy
Of romantic dreams
And a young girl's wishes
If I could paint
I'd paint a guide
A strong marker
That leads to home
If I could paint
I'd paint a mystery
Of shadows
Illuminated in the night
If I could paint
I'd paint freedom
The open air
And the wide world
If I could paint
I'd paint loneliness
Making life seem so small
And everything else so large
If I could paint
I'd paint hope
A glowing orb in
The midnight's sky
I'd paint swirls of color
And splashes of dark
And on my canvas would emerge
The image of the moon.
