When Summer Comes
When summer comes
Like a breath of fresh air;
When summer comes and alleviates all my stresses
To remind me of the good things in life;
When summer comes
Like a sunrise;
I want to get back in the swing of things;
Make up for lost time.
And therefore as I look upon everything
As a workweek
And I await the paid vacation,
And I loosen my laces as it approaches,
And I think of each past break, as different,
As lesser,
And each of them building upon each other,
Advancing towards a climax;
And each of them gazing,
Up to what lies in store.
When it’s over, I want to say: throughout the summer
I was aloof as could be,
Lived according to Timon and Pumba.
When it’s over, I don’t want to ask
What I accomplished,
I don’t want to have to second guess,
Or look back.
I want this summer to be worth the wait.
