The Arches' Sonnet
The dearest beauties stand for man to see
In Utah around a delicate mark
There can be found nature’s fine gallery
Which has been named Arches National Park
Last week I sat in their clean bathroom stalls
And I wondered where the many arches are
The balanced rock, the tall rust-red walls,
And all else which is considered bizarre
Were they always there, in the place they stand
Immortal, proud, erect, and never shy
Or are they descendents of other sights grand
Other arches who were destined to die
If this last is correct, then I grieve
Since those arches I can never perceive
