Burn
you've not seen your mother suffer
behind cracked skin
underneath the burn;
pain, equal to that on the surface
the salt of her eyes, is smarting on her skin
and accompanied by shrill releases;
her body sears before my eyes.
and broken insides pour out
upon broken outsides
mother is broken
and I am left
with lotion and two hands
to sooth what breaks her heart
and cold will only calm
but when will the wounds heal?
dampened by this hopeless red
her heart will never fly
i am my mothers daughter
suffering through her pain
