Take a Break From the Chaos of Life
The branches gently cradle me
in their arms
Leaning back against the rough bark
I gaze up at the
periwinkle sky
framed with puffy white clouds
I close my eyes
Listen.
Birds chirp
sing back and forth
Drip, drip, plunk.
The sap trickles through the tubing
into the waiting bucket
The breeze washes over my face
blowing wisps of hair into my eyes.
The sun warms my skin.
The shrill buzz of my cell phone
cuts through the silence—
But I turn it off
lie back against the bark
close my eyes
Sleep.
