A Distant Stare
I remember when we were the best of the best
That was before our friendship was put to the test.
I should have guessed it would end this way
I feel a long distance away
In reality you're just right there
It's those mean, nasty glares
Those whispers about me
When you think I'm not there
It's me, giving you that distant stare.
I've come to understand you just don't care.
You don't care I've "forgiven and forgot"
You don't care that you were and still are in the wrong.
I tried to move on.
They don't see what you're doing
How vile and untruthful your words really are.
In retrospect you're the one who's lost the most
Who's the most upset
To me it shows
To the rest it doesn't
In a way I wish I could go back and not see you for who you've become.
In a way I wish we'd never been friends.
In a way I want us to have never said what we said or done what we'd done.
In some weird way I could go up to you tomorrow and forgetting what you said be your best friend for eternity
Because in the end I don't want to care
But I still and forever will
Even if it's through a distant stare.
