dad
Always once a daddy’s girl, conjoined at the hip,
Anything went wrong and he’d certainly flip.
Along came a little boy, a party of three,
A party of two once he got rid of me.
Something occurred that piqued his interest,
Basketball, scholarships, all of his wishes.
Broken dreams to be exact, in fact, he pushed and pushed until his son was on track.
“You’re next in the family.” he implied, looking at me.
“I can’t until then.” I lied, staring at my feet.
The times come I try and I try,
To live up to expectations, but his motivation died.
The words out of his mouth hurt me deeply,
“I don’t believe in you.” He was greedy for victory.
