"Numquam finitur, donec vita finiatur."

Where is Happy?

Always go-lucky

That guy always

Tried to one-up me

When I would frown,

He always smiled

Ain’t been around

In quite a while

Where is Happy?

I heard he died

Somebody came,

And took his life

They say he knew

When it would come,

That he just smiled

Right at the gun

Not so lucky,

Is Happy now?

Got his bright smile

Turned upside-down

I guess someone

Ain’t like him none

Just came and done

Took all his fun

Who killed Happy?

Who could it be?

The funny thing,

Is it was me

I still think it

Was a mistake

Put Happy in

A shallow grave

I got tired,

Of feelin’ sad

And now Sadness

Is all I have

I killed Happy,

What have I done?

I should’ve known

He was the one

Who tried to make

Me smile when

I felt down, and

Now Happy’s dead

He tried to help,

When I was blue

Heaven, and Hell,

What did I do?

The author's comments:

Originally intended to be sung as a song, this ballad expresses the story of a depressed man who kills his best friend out of envy, and jealousy of his apparent constant happiness. Feeling that Happy was always trying to make him feel worse by always smiling, the man fell into a manic rage. After taking the life of the only person who tried to help him when he was depressed, the man suffers from extreme remorse and guilt as he realizes what Happy was trying to do for him. This is a metaphor for individuals suffering from depression who refuse to do anything to help themselves, and reject any help from those close to them as they sink further and further into their emotions.
